Over the past four years, Rhonda Miller has expanded her skills in the quality department at Groov-Pin in Newnan, Georgia. The Georgia facility is where our grooved pins and threaded inserts are manufactured.
As a quality inspector, Rhonda is responsible for checking parts that come off the CNC machines. She regularly learns how to do various tasks like calibration and first article inspections from her husband, Ray Miller, who also works in the quality department.
“I was a little bit intimidated in the beginning learning calibration, but once I got here and I started going it, it wasn’t as difficult as I thought,” she said. “I picked it up quickly, it’s easy once you get the hang of it.”
While calibration presented an initial challenge, Rhonda is confident in her work with the CNC parts. “The CNC runs excellent parts, it’s very rare that I find anything wrong,” she said. “I have to make sure the parts are to spec and enter them into the system. I like what I’m doing and every now and then I help other people on my team.”
Groov-Pin values teamwork, which has been a significant help to Rhonda in succeeding in her role. “Working in manufacturing, you have the opportunity to learn a lot and you learn about people too,” she explained. “You work with so many different people and I learn a lot about the machines from the people working on them.”
One of Rhonda’s favorite parts about working for Groov-Pin is her coworkers. “Everyone here is so helpful. I can go to anyone if I have a question,” she said.
Rhonda has worked in the manufacturing industry for the past 23 years. Previously, she worked with circuit boards on an all-female team. While she finds herself working with more males at Groov-Pin, she has adjusted easily to all of the changes her new role has introduced.
“Manufacturing lets you learn new things,” she explained. “Learning can sometimes be the most challenging part of the job, but it’s very rewarding.”
