Groov-Pin Georgia’s supervisor, Vic Fallon, maintains our Davenport machines. His responsibilities vary from day-to-day and can include Davenport rebuilding and maintenance, fixing any issues that arise, set-ups, and rebuilding in the tool room.

Vic started working on multi-spindle machines in 1971 and owned his own business for 28 years. He began learning about Davenports in 1979 and has been working on them since. Vic has rebuilt 30 Davenports for Groov-Pin since he started working for us 11 years ago.

“Groov-Pin is a great company to work for. If you have an idea, they let you run with it to see if it will work,” he said. Vic helps to keep the machines as tight as possible to meet our customers’ demands.

Over the years, Vic has experienced the ups and downs of the manufacturing industry. “When I started, I was very busy for years during the Vietnam War. Then it slowed somewhat and eventually got busy again,” he said.

The industry is picking up again, but many companies including Groov-Pin are struggling to find qualified workers. “Tolerances have changed. Products are requiring tighter tolerances and becoming harder to control. We have to come up with ways to control these tight tolerances and we need people who are interested in learning how to do this,” he said.

Rebuilding Davenports isn’t Vic’s only talent, though. In the 1970s, he played guitar professionally in a backup band for The Duprees!
