Ray Miller is the quality inspector at Groov-Pin in Newnan, Georgia where we manufacture our Grooved Pins and Threaded Inserts. Ray’s responsibility is to make sure that our parts are correct in addition to answering operators’ questions, receiving and checking parts before they are shipped, and completing First Article Inspections (FAIs) and paperwork.

“The most challenging part of my job is making sure the machines are running good parts. It’s the most important thing and sometimes it’s like a full-time job by itself,” he said.

“Our parts go in airplanes, cars, furniture, and everything else. We wouldn’t have a lot of these things if it wasn’t for manufacturers like us,” he said. He measures the parts with calipers and a new laser system that makes the inspection process a lot easier. One CNC part could have 36 different dimensions, which could take almost half a day to measure, but with the new computer system, a laser automatically measures the parts in little time.

Ray has worked hard over his past 24 years with Groov-Pin to ensure that we are shipping the best possible products to our customers and his relationships with fellow employees help to keep everything running smoothly. He appreciates that Groov-Pin is a family-oriented business and his wife, Rhonda, also works at our Georgia facility running machines. “We’re a different class of people here,” he said. “We’re self-reliant people, working to get more parts out the door. If we have to, we stay late and we get those parts out.”

Ray likes working with people and it’s a significant part of his job. From the minute he comes in, he is answering questions from many different employees. “I’m helping them out,” he said. “They always have good questions and I enjoy helping them make good parts. Some of the people I’ve known for over half my life, it’s a great place to work.”
