Groov-Pin employees participated in the GPFit winter 2019 Walk to Wellness walking challenge to raise $375 for the American Cancer Society. Walk to Wellness is one of our employee wellness program’s most impactful initiatives.

Groov-Pin employees participated in the Lung Cancer Research Foundation’s Free to Breathe 5K events in the fall of 2019 in honor of a member of our team who is currently battling lung cancer. Our team decided the latest walking challenge would focus on raising money for cancer research. The team chose the American Cancer Society as the Walk to Wellness donation recipient to celebrate Groov-Pin employees who are now cancer-free.

A donation would be made to the American Cancer Society based on the collective number of steps participants completed over seven weeks. With a maximum goal of 16 million steps equating to a $500 donation, participants completed a total of 10,672,093 steps. Thanks to each employee who participated, Groov-Pin will be making a $375 donation.

Each location played a significant role in reaching our total step count: Georgia participants completed 5.6 million steps, Rhode Island participants completed 3.6 million steps, and New Jersey and remote employees completed 1.5 million steps. Participants could cheer each other on each week as the donation tracker was updated with the new step count.

In addition to the donation incentive, participants who completed the highest number of steps in each location would receive extra vacation time, Groov-Pin apparel, and gift cards. Our incentives encourage employees to get up and be physically active while supporting a larger community cause.

About the American Cancer Society

“At the American Cancer Society, we’re on a mission to free the world from cancer. Until we do, we’ll be funding and conducting research, sharing expert information, supporting patients, and spreading the word about prevention. All so you can live longer — and better. Whether we’re working in a community near you or one halfway around the world, our mission remains the same: to save lives. From our volunteers and supporters to our staff and donors, every individual makes a difference, every day.”
