Monith Uk is the Miyano department lead at Groov-Pin’s subsidiary, Precision Turned Components (PTC), in Rhode Island. He has worked for Groov-Pin for 23 years. “In the beginning, I didn’t know anything and I was like the new guy. Machining seemed like it wasn’t for me, but later on I picked it up and now I know how to do everything,” he said.
Monith takes care of the entire Miyano department and his day-to-day responsibilities include setup, programming, checking parts, and acting as a liaison between machinists and management. “I make sure everyone has a job to do. I follow the schedule and make sure we finish and send jobs to customers on time,” he said.
Some jobs can be more difficult than others and Monith and his team have to work to find the right way to finish the job so it can get out to the customer. “I have to talk with engineers or the tool room to make sure we solve the problem the right way,” he said.
Problem-solving and leading a department requires attention to detail and the ability to stay on top of many different tasks. “I have to do a lot of processing and sometimes working with the programs. Everything has to go the right way, you need to know what you’re doing,” he said.
Monith finds his job interesting, which also helps him succeed in his role. “My role is interesting because it’s important – we have customers in many different industries, like the connector industry, and they need parts from us.”
