Louise York has worked for Groov-Pin in Newnan, Georgia, for almost 10 years. She was hired in 2009 as a receptionist and has since grown into her current role as office manager of the Georgia facility where we manufacture our standard lines of Grooved Pins and Threaded Inserts.
On a daily basis, Louise enters labor tickets, does the purchasing and receiving of parts, repair parts for the shop area, and shipping supplies, and files open and closed purchase orders. “I pretty much make sure the office runs properly,” she said.
Her responsibilities can be challenging because she often relies on others to get the information she needs. “I have to make sure I have the correct information when I enter the labor sheets and when I have to purchase an item that an operator or toolmaker may need, I have to go find them and get as much information from them as I can,” she said. “Sometimes, I also have to talk with vendors to get information to make sure I’m getting the right items for our operators.”
Attention to detail is key in Louise’s position as office manager since she has to manage critical information and documents. “When I was hired as a receptionist, I first started with receiving and filing. Now, I enter raw material certs, heating certs; any certs that customers may need,” she said. “We put all of these documents into our system internally and so a big part of my day is making sure all of these certs are in the right place to be accessed when the customer needs them.”
Groov-Pin leaders help employees grow in their roles and let responsibilities grow based on their capabilities. Louise’s previous experience in the manufacturing industry helped her develop her career at Groov-Pin. “When I started at Groov-Pin, I had worked in manufacturing before, but not in the office. My first job was in manufacturing where I worked on the shop area so I know how important it is to have the front office be able to communicate with the shop to get the right items,” she said.
The Grooved Pins and Threaded Inserts that are manufactured in Georgia used in many different applications and industries including Aerospace, Medical, Irrigation, Telecommunications, and much more. Communication between departments helps manufacturing operations run smoothly and fulfill the promise of quality and reliability to our customers.
Teamwork is also critical to Groov-Pin’s success. Our departments must work together and understand each other’s needs to ensure that the company is manufacturing and delivering top-quality parts to customers. “As small as some of our products are, it’s so neat how they fit into the big picture of an airplane or a medical component. We all work together on this one small step that goes into a much bigger end product,” she said.
The family atmosphere at Groov-Pin helps foster teamwork and helps the company excel. “I like that Groov-Pin is a small company because everyone knows everyone. You see someone on the shop floor and you know who they are,” Louise said. “I like that the president knows everyone within the company. He’s on a first-name basis with everyone and knows a little bit about them.”
