Since Jerry Johnson started at Groov-Pin in Newnan, Georgia, 34 years ago, he has worked on many of the machines including the CNCs, Davenports, Ecsomatics, and thread roller machines.

Now, as the lead in the Grooved Pin area, his day-to-day responsibilities include running the Grooved Pin machines and instructing employees who work on them. There is a responsibility to manufacture quality parts and it’s a responsibility that he takes seriously. “When you work hard and make good parts, it makes everything better. Everyone feels better,” he said.

One of the benefits of his job is being able to interact with other Groov-Pin employees. “Over the years, I’ve learned a lot and met a lot of good people. It’s truly a good place to work,” he said. He also likes that there isn’t a need to watch over him and others he works with. Jerry appreciates having freedom in the workplace and the confidence that employees are doing their jobs well.

For workers starting out in manufacturing, Jerry stressed that it takes a while to learn, but you have to continue your education towards the job. “Concentrate on the work and don’t take shortcuts,” he said.

During his free time, Jerry rides a Harley and enjoys working on his truck. He and his wife have also started traveling more to enjoy life as much as they can.
