Anthony Calhoun has been working in the shipping department at Groov-Pin Georgia for two-and-a-half years. Anthony has been learning different responsibilities including bills of lading, outsourcing, calling trucks, and receiving stock orders. “I work under Jimmy,” he said. “He’s teaching me and I’m trying to perfect the craft!”
In striving to perfect the craft, Anthony encounters challenges like getting the finished material out on time. “To get everything out the door on time, I personally go out and get the order, get it ready, and personally pack it so I know that I completed the task to the best of my ability,” he said.
Attention to detail is a key skill to have when working in the shipping department. “You have to look at every work order because there are parts that look exactly the same,” Anthony explained. “You have to read everything to find out what the difference is between this part and the next. Some parts have secondary processes; some pins have had oil and some haven’t. It could be just one number. There could be just one number that makes the difference.”
Under Jimmy’s instruction, Anthony has learned the steps for washing and packing products. “I started in shipping, I did the cleaning part, and now I’m learning whatever I can. From day one, Jimmy has taught me everything. He’s been a big mentor to me,” Anthony said.
Anthony feels team members like Jimmy make Groov-Pin a great place to work. “I love everyone here,” he said. “I’ve never had a job like this before, I look forward to coming to work.”
In addition to his coworkers, the manufacturing industry is interesting to Anthony. “I’ve always worked in manufacturing. I like the challenge of being precise; of getting the goods out the door,” he said.
