Meet one of Groov-Pin’s newest team members, Dan McNally. As the controller, Dan’s responsibilities include overseeing the accounting department, accounts receivable and accounts payable transactions, and cutting checks.

The position of controller for a manufacturing company presents unique challenges. “The big difference in manufacturing from other industries is inventory. It’s usually the biggest expense,” he explained. “You’re building your own products versus buying and reselling or selling a service.”

As a new hire, getting to know the systems that are already in place is also a hurdle, but Dan works with the team to get acclimated. “Every day, I’m dealing with customer service, sales, manufacturing, shipping – I’m interacting with all of those departments on a daily basis,” he said.

To excel in the role of controller, a deep knowledge of accounting is necessary. “Things like generating financial statements and analyzing them are key,” Dan explained. “It’s also helpful to have a strong background in how business works and understand how to interact with other departments and processes that flow into accounting.”

Dan appreciates Groov-Pin’s team-oriented atmosphere. “The people have all been great here,” he said. “It’s not overly corporate and I fit in well at smaller companies.”

Gotten to know the business over the past few months has led Dan to become particularly interested in Groov-Pin’s Aerospace applications. “It’s so interesting that one plane uses so many of our parts,” he said.

As someone who has worked in the manufacturing industry for some time, Dan understands how critical the industry is. “Manufacturing is important because you’re producing an actual good and there isn’t enough of that in the U.S. at this point,” he explained.

When he’s not managing the accounting department at Groov-Pin, Dan’s interests include classic cars and the New England Patriots.
