Grooved Pin part numbers are created with the following structure:

Pin Type – Diameter – Length – Material – Finish – Special Information

If you ask for a Type 5 1/8 x 1 steel zinc grooved pin, it would convert to:

G05E-125-1000-100-04-00

G05E- is G for Grooved Pin, 05 for Pin Type, and E for English as opposed to M for Metric.

-125- is the diameter…the decimal point would be in front of the first digit.

-1000- is the length…the decimal place would go between the first and second digit.

-100- is the material code…100 is 1215 steel, 700 is 6150 alloy, 500 is for 303 stainless steel. Other codes exist for special materials.

-04- is the plating or finish…00 is plain, 04 is zinc, 02 is cadmium, 06 is black oxide, 07 is zinc and yellow chromate, and 08 is cadmium and yellow chromate.

-000 The first two digits are where the heat treat requirement on alloy parts would be found. The last digit would indicate if it is a special part with -001 or -002.
